If you like Suspenseful Mystery Movies

Hey what's up! 👋🏼

Today's edition is all about a recent suspense / mystery film I came across that caught my eye.

"The Vast of Night" (2019)

Director: Andrew Patterson

Synopsis:

At the dawn of the space-race, two radio-obsessed teens discover a strange frequency over the airwaves in what becomes the most important night of their lives and in the history of their small town.

The Vast of Night is a period film set in the 1950s, and the shot above shows that there were about 500-1,000 extras in the stadium seats, all in period pice wardrobe.

The customer designer, Jamie Reed, said this was their biggest project so far in her career at the time.

The vast of Night was only a $700,000 budget, and they pulled off a really unique look and feel with that.

Quote from the Director:

"The game plan was always to have a character that didn’t normally get to take over a movie get a shot to take over a movie. It doesn’t work for everybody. I know some viewers are not into this, but the only way that works is if you get an interesting story to tell or give the character something to do that you’re interested in"
—Andrew Patterson, Director, Writer

Another reason I recommend this movie to you is because it's 90 minutes.

One thing you'll learn about me is that, while I'm not against longer movies that earn viewer's attention, I believe the 90-minute format for movies is, more often than not, the perfect movie length.
